Are eco-friendly supplies the future of frozen desserts?

In the not so distant future dessert shops, ice cream stores and more, will look entirely different.

As the years pass consumer mindsets change, the planet changes, and so do the products that we produce. In 2022 a study from McKinney & Co. found that 66% of ALL respondents and 75% of Millennials consider sustainability when they make a purchase.

Those are pretty big numbers... And almost all of them deem plastic as the most wasteful type of packaging. However... in another survey, plastic utensils were preferred over paper and other materials. Queue a shameless plug for our 100% bio based heavy duty dessert spoons. So what does this mean for you and the future of your dessert shop?

It means that you should at least begin the think about ways to cut down on waste and become more eco-friendly. Here are a couple of tips to help your brand be more eco-friendly.

1. Use eco-friendly supplies:

This may seem like a no-brainer and thankfully ice cream cups are primarily made from paper. But there are also bio-based spoons, wooden spoons, and Wootensils. 2. Eco-friendly marketing materials:

If you truly are using at least some eco-friendly products, make sure you have a sticker, signage, or something in a general area that lets people know that you are in fact embracing the "green" movement. It is great that you are helping the environment and helping to insure a future for generations to come, but it will also help to bring in more customers and keep others coming back for seconds.

It's especially beneficial to have eco-friendly images on products that appear to be plastic (but are in fact eco-friendly), so that way people understand that the item they are using will not cause destruction or waste.

3. Cost-effective supplies:

Aside from the above, there are many benefits to offering earth-friendly products.

One of the largest benefits for small businesses is a simple fact that customers who prefer eco-friendly shops will continue to come back. If you remember the study above, 66% of people preferred sustainable products. Believe me when I say if they have to choose from shop A. with non-sustainable products or shop B. with compostable spoons... They are going to choose shop B!

By going green or somewhat green you will already be ahead of the curve. New laws come out every day banning certain types of single-use plastics like straws and shopping bags all the way to certain to-go containers. We are fairly certain that more plastic items will be taken off-line so to speak in the very near future.
